CAA Leadership Award @ 3:09 PM

In 150 words or fewer (1,050 character limit), please describe your leadership goals for the upcoming academic year (July 2012 to June 2013). How will they further develop your leadership skills and create a positive effect here at UC Berkeley? Please include your plan for achieving those goals.

Although the typical image of a leader implicates an idea of brute power and authority, my take on leadership is a bit more subtle, like basil in a pasta dish. I plan to be entering the class of 2016, and as a first year, I intend to immediately look for opportunities to participate in undergraduate research underneath a professor. Most students don't take part in research so early on. A leader takes initiative and makes the most of her resources, but also knows how to learn from other leaders and take criticism and mentorship gracefully. I plan to ask questions, publish my research in the future to educate not only myself, but the UC Berkeley community. That is how you bring out the maximum taste; you start with the raw passion, and you put it among other ingredients, where it can soak the flavor of those, while contributing its own.
